CHARLES PERRY, Norwalk, CT
We had the pleasure of celebrating the New York Museum of Modern Art's contribution to design with Charles Perry, his wife, and sons in the Steelcase Manhattan offices in November 2003. It was a special treat to have Charles celebrate the moment with us since it was also the one year anniversary of the proprietary MoMA UNO chair program in November 2003.
The elegant play of form and function are evident in OFFI's best selling task seating solution, the Turnstone Uno chair, created by Charles Perry. With a background, primarily in indoor and outdoor sculpture, Perry's work centers around order, space and function -- a unique combination of art and mathematics. He's synthesized his expertise and artistry to the process of furniture design, resulting in the Uno chair.
While the body of his work can be found throughout America, places as remote as Australia and Saudi Arabia are also home to his sculptures. Since his first one-man show in sculpture in 1964, he's shown his work at many prestigious institutions including The Whitney Museum and The Cooper Union. Charles' work is included in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian Institution, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Contemporary Arts Society of London.
